Bolttech : Cross Media Branding Case Study

Polar Design developed most of Bolttech’s (www.bolttech.com) updated branding, with the unique challenge of insuring brand integrity without an initial brand development phase. Bolttech initially approached Polar Design for its web site design only. However, it eventually expanded our involvement to its 2003 product brochure and a multimedia CD ROM for distributors with extensive part and product information. As such, Polar Design was challenged with ensuring brand and image integrity in print and multimedia work base on the existing web site design completed.

Additionally, Bolttech' logo and symbols are used across all media, yet in subtle ways to insure that each piece of collateral can stand alone as an independent, interesting piece. For example, one Bolttech symbol, the hexagon, connotes a six-sided bolt head. However, its appearance in the CD ROM, web site icons that of course match the shapes of bolts and the octagonally shaped “o” in the Bolttech logo.

Bolttech sreenshotAnother example includes consistent planning and reuse of icons and photo collages across the brochure, CD ROM and web site so that an icon or photo's placement or layout may vary to fit the particular medium, yet will accompany the same textual content in all three media to insure a consistent image..

Beyond visual symbols, Polar Design also implemented an energetic audio sound track for the CD ROM designed to match the professional yet clearly industrial image created for the CD ROM, web site and brochure.

The final product is not only pleasant to view, but leaves potential customers with a clean, consistent understanding of Bolttech's products and brand.
