September 9, 2005 – Roger Rulewich & the Golf Group Branded Website Launched
Roger Rulewich and the Golf Group turned to Polar Design to develop its first website in early 2005 that would properly represent the group on the web with an innovative image that nevertheless avoided an ostentatious or flashy approach.

The project presented a dual challenge to Polar Design. First, the group is a small company that sought, on a limited budget, a complete branding exercise prior to site design. Roger Rulewich and the Golf Group agreed that careful development and documentation of a corporate identity would lead to a design with more resonance on the web, print and other media. This would, in the long run, lead to greater conversion of leads to customers than an image produced by simply launching into the design phase to save money.

The second challenge involved the complexity of the group's positioning. Roger Rulewich and the Golf Group posses renknowned golf course designers whose legacy stretches to Robert Trent Jones. Golf course design goes beyond landscaping to include elements of architecture, land sculpting, land use planning, construction and environmental engineering. The firm posseses experience and the capability to handle all stages of golf course design. Yet at the same time, as a smaller design firm, takes a personal approach with its clients. Polar Design needed to balance these seemingly polar opposites.

Through our simplified, structured branding formation process, we developed a unique image that truly resonates all aspects of the Group's brand - from their work with the land, to their service orientation. The design utilizes gentle curves, suggestive of a golf course, along with a creatively conceived, subtle Flash banner whereby an architect's sketch is drawn and gradually morphs into an actual course.

April 14, 2005 – Modifiable Multimedia Messaging System for Glaxo
Building on our work for the BBC in 2003, Polar Design designed and deployed a comprehensive demo solution in conjunction with the Gale Co. by which non-technical GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) staff can easily author attractive multimedia presentations, as well as display them to employees and visitors via multiple plasma screens in its UK headquarters.

The solution combines GSK’s legacy media distribution system and Polar Design’s InsightBuilder® content management solution. Presentations are assembled using InsightBuilder®, which provides users the ability to update presentation images, text, audio, video, and animations with its easy to use interface. The solution then publishes the content as XML files and multimedia templates, which can be designed either by Polar Design or third party agencies. The XML files and multimedia templates are pushed to a location where the media distribution system presents them on plasma screens installed throughout the facility.

This new solution does not require major ongoing expenses since the multimedia templates are reusable and can be modified for new projects or messages by non-technical staff. The result is a remarkable level of branding and internal communication made possible with highly attractive multimedia messaging that is cost-effective to manage, gains more attention than Powerpoint, and is very visible to passerby as it appears on plasma screens throughout GSK’s facility.

November 9, 2004 – Multimedia Websites Making a Comeback with Dramatic Results for Clients
New clients such as Estrakon and existing Polar Design clients such as HeartVentures face unique challenges in presenting new product or complicated concepts to prospective clients and partners. Thanks in part to recent advances in the Macromedia Flash plug-in and software, as well as Polar Design’s 5 year legacy of technical and design creativity, both companies are able to communicate their message with hybrid Flash/HTML web sites.

These recently launched sites display Polar Design’s capabilities in combining video, rich story-driven animations, and multimedia presentations with HTML web sites that load quickly and remain visible to search engines.

HeartVentures medical and health education programs are conveyed to potential clients via streaming video and animations that appear in their proper context in its new web site. By studiously combining video testimonials, samples of HeartVentures’ multimedia courseware and its founder’s message with an HTML menu, users of Internet Explorer as well as new browsers (e.g., Firefox and Opera) can appreciate the company’s mission and benefits without a media player.

Estrakon’s product, a new type of lighted signage that offers the same attraction as neon lighting without the distracting glare, is one product that cannot be properly conveyed through video let alone static images. Polar Design’s custom animation of this product, in an story-driven intro animation and additional presentations, help the company communicate the benefits of its signage more effectively. Moreover, as with HeartVentures, the multimedia is embedded in a traditional Flash web site providing additional benefits of search engine visibility and speedy loading.

February 24, 2004 - MIT iSeek Team Unveils New Technology with Polar Design’s Assistance

The MIT iSeek team, the first and only US group selected to compete in the final round at the 3GSM conference in Cannes, France, selected Polar Design to help amaze the audience and judges at the conference. iSeek is a technology solution that will allow passive location based matching via GSM mobile phones. The team is comprised of students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that are developing and commercializing this solution.

Without a doubt, producing the iSeek presentation was our most ambitious project to date. Compressing four weeks of work into two, Polar Design completed a highly dynamic presentation that combines a unique, branded design, custom animations, video, unique musical soundtrack, and copywriting. The presentation describes a new approach and not only explains technical characteristics of the system, but depicts the systems’ benefits clearly to non-technical viewers through animated short clips.
