Interactive content many times is what helps draw website visitors in and keeps them clicking through a website. With the now ubiquitous YouTube and the increasingly popular adoption of video content from apps like Vine, Instagram and Snapchat (even though you cannot embed Snapchat videos, users are increasingly using its video feature), video content and, more importantly, the maintenance of video integration content becomes an integral part of a website’s strategy plan. And, once again, a sound content management solution with modules specifically designed for video integration can help alleviate stress and maintenance of interactive content.

Video Integration with a Content Management Solution

It may be simple to embed a video on a web page, but the strategy behind how you embed it and the auxiliary information you embed it with can be the reason that visitors stay on your website longer and visit more pages during their visit. Having a content management solution developed for video integration allows administrators to more easily manage the assets that contribute to video content. A sound video integration module would include fields to add, edit and maintain:

  • Video Title
  • Video Description
  • Video itself (via embed code, Video ID, or other integration method based on video vendor)
  • Video Thumbnail
  • Video Length
  • Video Documents (in pdf or doc format)
  • Video Tags
  • Video Categories

With video details in place in the backend, we now have the information to populate a front end page. But there’s more…

In addition to the basic details for each individual video, with the use of a video integration module we can also add dynamic auxiliary content to each page, to compliment the video that a website visitor is now viewing. Each video page can list “Related Videos”, such as other videos from the same program, or from the same category, or tagged with the same keywords. Or, each video page could make use of image sponsors or image ads to other content on the website, such as special deals, special video content, upcoming events.

Video embedded on a website with some auxiliary information to help reduce bounce rates and increase conversions.

Additionally, each video page can include social integrations such as shareable buttons (Facebook, Twitter, Google+), Facebook comment plugin, or Twitter timeline widgets based off of a keyword popular in the video. Having auxiliary information such as these gives the website visitors avenues to other content and other ways to interact with the website and interested users. This, in turn, can lead to lower bounce rates, more time spent on the site, more pages per visit, and more importantly more opportunities for conversions.

If your website is looking to implement more interactive video content which can lead to better website statistics, and you’re looking for a sound strategy on how to handle, maintain, and administer the amount of video content which will add up over time, contact the Polar Design content management experts for its experience in video integration modules within a content management solution.

Next up in this content management solution blog series we’ll cover more specific modules that many clients find valuable not only to a website’s functionality, but more importantly to a website administrator’s ease of use. Next up: integrating Google maps onto a website.
